Day 1 & 2:
What a
couple of days in Central America! We’ve certainly hit the ground running.
After a seamless flight, we drove to the Belize Night Zoo to see tigers,
jaguars and pumas. We even heard howler monkeys and fed Tapirs. Our meal at the
zoo was excellent (all allergies accommodated)! After a busy day, we slept like
babies.
The past
day has been packed with fun! We ate a hearty breakfast before packing up and
heading to our cave tubing adventure. We courageously hiked through the muggy
Belizean jungle and were rewarded by cool, refreshing caves. The caves were
surprisingly large and the tour guides were surprisingly informative. After
lunch, our exhausted gang drove several hours through the mountains.
As of this entry, we have arrived
in the Maya Center Community Village for our service project at the local
school. We look forward to a homestay and mouth-watering Mayan cuisine (all
allergies were STILL accommodated)!
At our
group meeting tonight, we all came together to share our hopes for this week.
Zoe, Kelsey, Laila and Alex all mentioned their interest in making lasting
connections with the local community. Similarly, Stanley, Isabelle, Max and
Luis all expressed their desire to collaborate successfully. Tauryn, Adriana
and Ryan all touched on the goal that we all step out of our comfort zone.
Looking ahead to tomorrow, Sam, Sylvia and Aidan all agreed that it is
essential that we work effectively during our service project. Andy and Ranch
hope to make a lasting impact with through our project.
Yours truly,
Leaders of the Day Kaley and Eli
